Fair Play

2013-2014 marked Hackney Laces debut into leagues. Our youngers (U16s) played in the capital girls league and our olders (16+) played in the Greater London Women's League. Our youngers played in a friendly league so we were learning the ropes and the rules.

Our olders were thrown into the world of women's football, with the vast majority of our players being between the ages 16-18. At any given time, 10 of our starting 11 were under the age of 18. And at times this was tough.

We certainly held the league record for the highest number of foul throws. We might also hold the record for being the youngest in the league. But we have a more worthy accolade to be shouting about.

We were awarded the fair play award by the Greater London women's league. This recognition is calculated through the scores awarded by referees after each game throughout the season. And we took first place, for which we are incredibly proud.

It's been a great season. We also came 3rd in our division - definitely something worth shouting about.
